Just Like Dad

Sometimes I feel bad for myself because my kids all prefer their dad. I have convinced myself that I am somehow less important in their lives because of this. They argue over who gets to sit by him at dinner, which means that I never get to. They want him to tuck them in and it is him that they pretend to be. They set up offices, and pretend to answer the phone at Dad’s work. They never pretend to do hair. They never pretend to fold clothes or clean the kitchen. They never pretend to bathe kids or change diapers. What I have realized though is: Who better for my children to imitate? Who better for my kids to look up to? He honors his priesthood, he loves his wife and his kids. He is a good son, a hard worker. He is responsible and he is smart. He is fit, healthy, and fun. If they grow up to be just like him, I will be the proudest mother that there ever was.

Eight years.  Allready?  Really?  Yes, indeed…Eight years ago DH and I were married in the Mt.  Timpanogos Temple in AF, UT.  It was the most beautiful day.  The only thing that could have made it better would be if my dad could have been in the sealing room with us.  Some day, I hope!  We had the best reception in my in-laws yard, and it was fun.  Pure fun.

Here are things that we have done:

Eight: Vacations – DisneyWorld, Lake Tahoe, Bear Lake, Glacier Nat’l Park, Oregon Coast, Cancun, LegoLand/Sea World, and Estes Park, Colorado.  Such good memories.

Seven: Neices and Nephews that have been born since we got married.

Six: Cars-Miata, Acura, 4Runner, Mazda, Corrolla and now a mini-van.

Five: Cell phones (I have a tendency to loose things….sorry, B!)

Four: Family Reunions in the desert.

Three: Bourne Movies, Ocean’s Movies, and Homes

Two: Beautiful, Handsome fun boys

One: Amazing daughter

Thanks, B, for everything.  You’re great and I love you.  Here’s to a whole lifetime and beyond.

Ahh…Marriage

Eight Things about My Marriage

1. Where did you meet your husband? I met DH at work.  He was my boss.

2. What was the first thing you said to your husband?  I probably said “Nice to meet you” or something else lame because I was being introduced to him by his boss, the man that was interviewing me for my job.   I will say though, when I saw him, I knew that he would have an important role in my life….I just didn’t know what!

3. Where was your first kiss? First date? Our first date was to a Jazz game.  I was a HUGE fan of the Utah Jazz (this is back in the good days of Stockton to Malone) so he knew I wouldn’t turn down a chance to see the Jazz.  Just kidding.  It was a great date!  Our first kiss was at his condo.  We had just watched a movie and he asked me if he could kiss me goodbye. *sigh*

4. Did you have a long or short courtship/engagement? We started dating in April, and were engaged in July and were married in September.  It seems so short, but we had been good friends for a year!  We played on softball teams and bowling leagues together.  So much fun.

5. Where did you get engaged?  We went with his sister and neice to a stocked fishing pond called Paradise pond.  His neice dragged me on a walk around the pond, and when we got back Bryan was pretending to catch a fish and asked me to grab the net.  It was a bag with the sweetest poem and a gumball machine ring, and he proposed.  I said yes and his sister started snapping pictures.  Such a good day!

6. Where did you get married?  On September 10, 1999 in the Mount Timpanogos Temple in American Fork, Utah.

7. How did the reception go? Our reception was the funnest reception I have ever been too!  We had the reception in his parents backyard and served a variety of desserts.  It was great weather and great fun with so many friends and family there.  Some one decorated Bryan’s car and were surprised when the LIMO came to pick us up! His poor dad had to take the car in and get it cleaned the next day.  hee hee hee

8. How was the honeymoon?  So relaxing!  We went to Glacier Nat’l park and spent a week in a cute little cabin.  We were there right after the official season ended so there wasn’t a ton of people, and it was so wonderful.

Got this from Cheryl.  I invite everyone to participate and reminisce!

On the countdown…

Five days until the big anniversary party.  It is going to be held here at my house in my back yard.  AUGHH!  I have been working hard in the yard to get ready but the weekend was windy, cold and rainy so I didn’t get anything done.  As soon as I am done here, I am headed back out to get to work.

Planning on serving fruits and vegetables with dip, cream puffs and cookies.  Some sort of punch as well.  My sister is working on all the decorations.  She arrives in town on Friday from Vegas.  I am planning on making a mini-scrapbook with some photos of them over the years.  Planning on putting a page where guests can sign names and leave some pages to take some pictures that night.

It is my parents 40th anniversary so we are going with the ruby theme…but then today I found out that my mom had yellow roses and daisies in her bouquet.  Wondering if we should put some yellow flowers out…Maybe we should get my mom a corsage and my dad a boutonniere in yellow?  We are planning on this being pretty casual though so that might be too much. Any thoughts?
